1. How did you select wedding photography as your career?

Right out of college in 2006, a friend from school asked me to photograph a wedding with her, and it just clicked—effortlessly. Something about the energy, the emotion, and the fast-paced nature of the day felt so inspiring to me. Plus, it was finally a chance to wear my coveted Armani suit to work. Since then, I’ve spent most Saturdays at a wedding, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

2. What is your best advice for engaged couples?

I’ve given a lot of advice to engaged couples over the years, but the one piece that always gets the best feedback is this: take first dance lessons. Not only does it drastically boost your confidence for that big moment, but it also makes a huge difference in your wedding photos. Most of the iconic wedding poses are actually dance moves, so a little practice goes a long way—not just for the dance floor, but for capturing those stunning, magazine-worthy portraits.

3. What is something you constantly strive for?

I constantly strive to see the wedding through my couple’s eyes and make the photography a true extension of their vision for the day. Every couple has a unique vision, energy, and aesthetic, and each wedding stands as its own unique entity. Photography, to me, is not a one-size-fits-all product—it’s a service, crafted with care. The best wedding photography is made to order, just like a personal chef creating a meal tailored to your taste.

4. What big news do you want to share?

We’re excited to announce a big change! Founded in 2009, Colin Lyons Photography has evolved over the past 15 years, and we have a new name to reflect that growth: Love & Lyons. In addition to photography, we now provide comprehensive coverage for every aspect of a couple’s special day, including Videography and Goldpop Portrait Booth. It’s all part of our commitment to creating unforgettable experiences with beloved results.

5. How far in advance should couples book your business?

On average, couples book about 10 months in advance, but timelines can range anywhere from 6 to 24 months. Popular dates fill up quickly, so the best way to secure your spot is to reach out as soon as you have your wedding date!
