Puttin' on the Ritz

THE PARTY Metropolitan Family Services held its 30th annual Holiday Celebration at The Ritz-Carlton Chicago. Guests danced the night away to the beats of Grammy Award-winning percussionist Sammie Torres and the Pilsen Art Ensemble. Live and silent auctions capped off the evening. THE PLAYERS Metropolitan’s Family of the Year award was presented to the Knuepfer family for its generous support. Robert Knuepfer Jr. first became involved with the charity in the 1990s and formerly served as president of the board of directors; his moving acceptance speech emphasized the importance of giving back to the Chicago community. And the audience of 500 must have listened—proceeds reached a record-breaking high of $1 million. The black-tie event, which was emceed by Mark Suppelsa of WGN, welcomed guests including MFS President and CEO Ric Estrada; event co-chairs Richard and Martha Melman; Merle Goldblatt Cohen and Seymour Cohen; Frank and Vera Clark; Roger and Stephanie Hochschild; Tony and Susan Hunter; Ashley Duchossois Joyce and Michael Joyce; and Barbara Rapp. THE BOTTOM LINE Funds support the 43,000 families and individuals Metropolitan Family Services aids in the course of one year.
