What is your favorite trend for weddings currently?

The “long weekend wedding” trend looks so fun and unique. Couples who have a ceremony on Friday, the reception on a Saturday and the send-off on a Sunday. I think it’s a brilliant idea to have a day dedicated to each event, so the couple truly savors those moments. Here at The Royal Sonesta Chicago River North, we are perfectly designed to accommodate the ‘long wedding weekend’ trend! We have our restaurant, CBR, and adjacent private and semi-private dining spaces – all perfect spots for rehearsal dinners and farewell brunches. Or if you are wanting a more unique wedding experience, we have our Rooftop Terrace which is a fun space on the 17th floor that is all outdoors with city skyline views!

Tell us what makes your business different from other wedding companies?

We build relationships with each couple. We take our time to listen to their journey and help their vision of their dream wedding come to life. We don’t just sell weddings; we create moments that will last a lifetime. Part of how we do this is by having a variety of spaces to offer for all types of weddings and wedding-adjacent events. We can be creative with these spaces and offer different vibes, if you want more fun and casual or luxurious and traditional.

Best advice for couples?

Have fun, have a sense of humor and don’t get lost in the madness. Always remember that your love and happiness is what is at the core of this day.

What is essential for any wedding?

I honestly think this varies from couple to couple and the type of wedding you are having. What’s essential to one couple may not be a priority to another.

What is one of the most unique elements you have seen in a wedding?

One of the most unique and beautiful elements I have seen at a wedding was an officiant who invited the grandparents, parents and siblings to share their own personal words of wisdom and advice for the couple. The most wonderful part was that it was a surprise. It was quite heartfelt and moving.

Another unique element I saw at a wedding was a couple who made a time capsule. They had a customized box made, the couple added love letters to each other, guests added an array of keepsakes, a bottle wine and they vowed to then open it on their 10th anniversary.
