The Party: Simon Doonan, creative-ambassador-at-large of Barneys New York (and the wit behind the store’s legendary window displays for almost 25 years), and Julia Van Nice hosted Chicago’s fashionable elite for a luncheon at Fred’s Chicago in honor of Kate Betts and her new book, Everyday Icon. The Players: Stephanie Field Harris, Meredith Wood-Prince, Abby Dunn, Julie Latsko, MK Pritzker and Trisha Rooney Alden were among those dining on chopped salads and Belgian pommes frites. Guests chatted with Doonan and Betts over stunning table décor, which included Epoch Floral-designed centerpieces of fuchsia garden roses, double-pink bouvardia, wax flower and pink Dutch tulips. A Toast: In speaking about her new book and own career as a journalist and former editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar, Betts referenced the historical significance of First Lady Michelle Obama’s expressive style while in the political spotlight. Betts credits Obama with liberating successful women from the stereotype that style and substance are mutually exclusive. Without a doubt, this crowd was excited to take home a copy of Everyday Icon.
