Safe Haven

| August 17, 2015 | Parties

The Party
The nonprofit Kids In Danger, dedicated to protecting children by improving children’s product safety, was started in 1998 in the wake of unspeakable tragedy—the death of 16-month-old Danny Keysar, son of founders Linda Ginzel and Boaz Keysar. And yet this lively event, a reception in the sky-high Mid-America Club, has always felt celebratory, with top chefs like Luca Corazzina of 312 Chicago and Duncan Biddulph of Kinmont bringing their A game to a variety of tasting stations, and an exceptional raffle and silent and live auction with items like four nights at the Casa de Campo resort in the Dominican Republic.

The People
Barbara Guthrie, vice president and chief safety officer at Underwriters Laboratories, was the recipient of this year’s award. The evening was emceed by the always charming TV personality Jane Monzures. Author Jonathan Eig, a longtime supporter, tried his hand at the wine-bottle ringtoss.

Best in Show
More than 230 people attended the event, which raised more than $120,000 in support of KID’s lifesaving mission. And after all, isn’t that what friends are for? –Photos by Ben Gonzales, Gopho Collective
