The couple shared an intimate moment on the dance floor.
After Samantha Lula and Joe Trujillo first crossed paths in high school, they went on just one date—until five years later, when they gave it another go, this time for good. Samantha, self-admittedly the planner in the relationship, was completely surprised when Joe got down on a knee on a warm November day mid-pandemic. “I stared at him on his knee and could not believe this was the moment I had been waiting for my entire life,” she remembers.
Two years later, the couple jetted to San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico, for the three-day destination wedding of their dreams. “All the events were in town, and the wedding day was at Hacienda San Luis Gonzaga, right outside of town,” Samantha says. “We saw about 20 locations, and this property was actually the first one we saw; it was a very tranquil property, with birds chirping.” They went traditional for their Catholic ceremony: readings by family, Catholic blessings, traditional vows and no first look. (One thing that was not traditional? The bride’s stunning gold dress.) Samantha counts walking down the aisle as her favorite moment from the ceremony: “It was the craziest feeling I’ve ever felt.”
Inspired by a wedding Samantha came across on Instagram, a romantic reception scene was set with candles, draping and mirrors. “Everyone told me this, and it is so cliché, but now post-wedding I really wish I could go back and enjoy the moments even more than I did,” Samantha shares. Despite a toppled Champagne tower, a shuffled seating chart and a misspelled cake, the wedding—which fell on the couple’s tenth anniversary of dating—was a worthy celebration of Samantha and Joe’s epic love.
In Mexican tradition, dancing horses were on the venue property.
