Shanghai Surprise

| July 27, 2011 | Parties

THE PARTY More than 1,200 loyal (and lucky) guests and neighbors turned out in cocktail attire to celebrate The Peninsula Chicago’s 10-year anniversary. Beyond the red carpet and velvet ropes at the corner of Superior and Rush, the party spanned the hotel’s lobby, Shanghai Terrace, the Terrace, the Grand Ballroom, The Bar and Avenues restaurant. THE VIPS Sir Michael Kadoorie (chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited) and Maria Razumich-Zec (regional vice president and general manager, The Peninsula Chicago) welcomed the chic crowd, including Christie Hefner and Bill Marovitz, Larry and Julie Wert, Mike and Kristina McGrath and Bill Zwecker. THE DETAILS Aerial artists from Aloft, the Ken Arlen Orchestra, traditional Japanese taiko ensemble drummers and more set a sensational backdrop for sampling sumptuous hors d’oeuvres (think ceviche, summer rolls and dim sum) from endless food stations. Later, Chicago blues legend Lonnie Brooks kept the party going in The Bar, while DJ Mark Picchiotti fueled a fĂȘte inside the Parisian discotheque that was set up in Avenues.
