THE PARTY At this year’s annual gala, the Women’s Board of Joffrey Ballet celebrated its 10th anniversary and the $15 million in contributions it has made as the single largest contributor to the operating fund of Joffrey. THE SCENE Artistic Director Ashley Wheater developed the opening program at Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, after which guests headed to the Palmer House Hilton via trolley. Over cocktails and dinner, guests viewed a video produced by Women’s Board member Donna LaPietra that celebrated the board’s anniversary, and the Arpino Angel Award was presented to Jay Alix, Una Jackman, Erica Mann Ramis and Harold Ramis, the producers of the film Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance. Naturally, dancing ensued, and the evening—chaired by Candace Jordan and Helen Melchior—raised more than $1.3 million for Joffrey’s educational programs. THE HIGHLIGHT Held on the date of the last Joffrey performance of the 2011-2012 season, the event honored the magnificent dancers, all of whom are staying for the 2012-2013 season. With new additions Yoshihisa Arai, Guillaume Basso and Cara Marie Gary, the company now totals 45 dancers. Photos by Bob Carl
