Spirit of Discovery

| July 1, 2013 | Parties

THE PARTY One of Chicago’s most anticipated annual galas, the American Cancer Society Discovery Ball raised more than $2.1 million at the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel. THE SCENE More than 900 guests, including power couples such as Julia and John Hinshaw, executive vice president, Hewlett Packard Co.; Jacqueline and Glenn Tilton, Midwest chairman, JP Morgan Chase & Co.; and Anna and Greg Brown, chairman and CEO, Motorola Solutions Inc., joined comedian Billy Gardell of CBS’ Mike & Molly and emcee Ron Magers of ABC7 news for a truly festive evening. THE HIGHLIGHTS Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception and dinner, followed by a moving presentation showcasing families’ triumphs over cancer. Later in the night, Gardell brought levity in spades with his distinctly Chicago variety of humor. The following auction, where guests bid on items such as a 2.95-carat diamond Tiffany & Co. bracelet and trip to New York for a literal “breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and subsequent dancing, were no less lively.
