IT’S A STORY nearly ten years in the making: Dee Maracich and Matt McKenzie met during their junior year of high school and have been inseparable ever since—so their latest chapter simply had to be epic. Matt proposed on the Chicago River in the summer of 2022; after docking their boat at RPM Seafood, Dee was greeted with a surprise engagement party of friends and family.
Their wedding day similarly paid homage to the city and river. The duo exchanged vows at brand-new hotel The St. Regis Chicago, a venue with a view, to say the least. “Our first look took place on the 83rd-level blow-through floor”—a unique addition to the towering skyscraper that reduces sway in the wind—“with 360-degree views of the whole city, which was so special and something we will always cherish,” the bride says.
Ivory invitations in city-skyline envelopes and engraved gold nameplates served as catalysts for the theme of classic elegance with modern accents. In the stunning Astor ballroom, lush white rose and orchid arrangements served as centerpieces and decor glittered in abundant candlelight. Highlights for the newlyweds included their first dance and the Champagne sabering, an evening ritual performed at St. Regis locations around the world. “Enjoy each part of your wedding,” Dee says, “because it’s over before you know it.” But then, the real journey begins.
