When met with a bride who adores all things Vincent van Gogh, esteemed floral designer Derrick Taylor of Taylor & Co. Event Design (taylorandcoevents.com) knew exactly what this Lake Geneva wedding called for: a beautifully hypnotic floral wall inspired by “The Starry Night” that doubled as an escort board and backdrop for the head table. “I had never done anything like this before, aside from a traditional flower wall,” Taylor says. “What better way to set the tone than ‘The Starry Night’ on her starry night?” Taylor first freehanded the outline on three 8-foot-by-4-foot boards before covering them with approximately 4,700 flowers and stems—all done in his studio in just under two days. At the top of cocktail hour, amber lights illuminated the board, and when the sun went down, indigo lights took over to set the starry scene for the reception. “I think our work speaks for itself,” Taylor concludes. “I’m never afraid to build something I’ve never done.”
Escort cards by Eight21 Studios (eight21studios.com) were affixed to the floral wall with antique hat pins. The wedding was planned by Michigan Avenue Events (michiganavenueevents.com)
