Supreme Opens First Chicago Store In Wicker Park

By Lauren Brocato By Lauren Brocato | November 10, 2022 | Style & Beauty Feature

Sizzling-hot skate brand Supreme opened the doors to its first Chicago location—its 15th across the globe. With a prime spot (1438 N. Milwaukee Ave.) hugging the corner of Milwaukee and Evergreen Avenues, the shop’s clean white facade bearing the iconic Supreme box logo above the front doors declares the brand is breaking into the Chicago market in a big way.

Don’t be surprised if you have to wait in line before getting in. But trust us, the wait is well worth it. The 1,800 square foot space is anchored by a massive, full-wall LED monitor playing Supreme’s film archive. In the store, shoppers will find racks of hoodies, hats, tees, skateboards and more, and a pair of benches that nod to the city’s skate scene.

Art has always been central to the brand’s ethos, and the same goes for this location. A lifesize sphinx sculpture, titled “Schminx,” finished in gold with a handpainted face by longtime Supreme collaborator and friend of the brand Mark Gonzales sits just inside the front door. Another major work in the shop is artist Rita Ackermann’s mural covering the north-facing wall.

The open-layout shop has the same buzzy energy as its other locations (New York, L.A., Brooklyn and more), but with a hint of Chicago in its DNA. Although just opened today, Supreme Chicago has already made a major splash.
