The Party
Magic and wonder filled the air at the Women’s Board of The Joffrey Ballet’s annual Nutcracker Family Dinner.
The Scene
Following a matinee performance of the holiday classic, guests boarded festive trolleys that whisked them to The Standard Club. As the adults sipped cocktails and reflected on the beauty of the production, pint-size partiers decorated their own pointe shoes, crafted jewelry and filled their pockets and tote bags with handfuls of their favorite candy. Meanwhile, Jeraldine Mendoza and Alberto Velazquez, fresh from their performances as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Nutcracker Prince, thrilled aspiring dancers with a personal appearance.
The Highlights
At dinner in the stunning Grand Ballroom, guests were encouraged to eat dessert—a delectable red velvet cupcake from Magnolia Bakery—first before enjoying their romaine salad and pumpkin Brie ravioli in a brown butter sage sauce. (Smaller diners noshed on petite crudités and hamburgers with savory sides.) All were delighted by a final round of treats in the form of mini chocolate and peppermint milkshakes. Equally sweet? The $140,000 raised for Joffrey’s productions and community engagement programs. –Photos by Bob Carl
