The Party The Auxiliary Board of John G. Shedd Aquarium broke the record books by welcoming 1,200 guests to join 32,500 aquatic animals at the sixth annual Whole BLU World cocktail party and fundraiser. The Scene Co-chairs Janet Barnes and Ashley Weinzweig greeted attendees as they enjoyed delectable dishes like summer garden rolls from Sunda and Big Fish Farms’ sustainable American paddlefish caviar. Sushi Samba, Mercadito, Rockit Bar & Grill, Shaw’s Crab House and more were also serving up bites. While sipping aquatic-themed cocktails such as the “Coral Reef” and “Sea Star,” guests toured the Shedd’s stunning exhibits, including the recently extended Jellies. After enjoying live music and watching the fireworks at Navy Pier over Lake Michigan from the outdoor terrace, guests were shuttled via trolley to the exclusive after-party at The Underground. The Bottom Line The sold-out event was the most successful BLU in history, raising more than $266,000 to support the Shedd’s conservation and education initiatives Photography Courtesy of the John G.
