THE PARTY The Palmer House Hilton played host to the fifth annual Liberty Gala. This year’s $100,000 Pritzker Military Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing went to Carlo D’Este, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel. THE HIGHLIGHTS Host Rob Stafford of NBC Chicago welcomed more than 500 guests to the ballroom. Decorated Marine Corps veteran Karl Marlantes was also honored, receiving the Colby Award, and the Steppenwolf Theatre Company performed. Photos by Jorge Garza Norrick
