The Party
Philanthropists and their canine companions took to The Drake Hotel for every animal lover’s social event of the season—PAWS Chicago’s 13th annual Fur Ball. PAWS Chicago, the city’s largest no-kill shelter, hosted the festive evening to support the programs that help save thousands of homeless pets in the Windy City each year.

The People
More than 750 guests and their beloved pets walked the red carpet before settling in for an evening of dancing and dining (pups could peruse the dog buffet for tasty canine hors d’oeuvres). Alison Victoria, host of HGTV’s Kitchen Crashers and a development board member at PAWS Chicago, also kicked up her heels at the lively party.

Best in Show
Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins astounded guests when, during the live auction, he offered up a private in-home concert for 20 accompanied by guitarist Jeff Schroeder. The concert sold twice for a total of $120,000. Another generous guest bid $45,000 to sponsor PAWS Chicago’s next transport van, which is used to move cats and dogs from high-kill shelters to PAWS Chicago. Overall, the evening raised a record-breaking $1.6 million for the organization, an amount bound to set a lot of tails wagging. –Photos courtesy of Sparenga Photography
