The Drake Hotel: Real Chicago...Real Weddings

By The Drake Hotel By The Drake Hotel | June 30, 2022

The Drake Hotel is one of few extraordinary hotels in the world, renowned for its iconic wedding venues. Through the decades, after opening its doors over 100 years ago, The Drake Hotel has served Kings & Queens and real couples celebrating their engagement parties, bridal showers, wedding ceremonies and receptions, and anniversaries. For the past century, weddings at the hotel continue to emanate charm and refinement marked by warm gestures of hospitality to encapsulate life-long memories.

A love story that continued here, is the one of Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio. Following their honeymoon, the two visited Chicago and stayed at the hotel. While here, they carved their initials, JD and MM, on the bar of Cape Cod. Even more romantic, Marilyn Monroe wrote a love message for Joe in a bottle, entrusted it to the bartender and promised they would return to retrieve the message. You’re invited to create your own symbolic love gestures that speak to Real Chicago matrimonial experience, uniquely yours, at The Drake Hotel.

A truly remarkable generational trend is emerging, at the hotel, as many couples are selecting the same event space where their parents and grandparents wed. A trend our team views as a wonderful testament of iconic service delivered and one that is proudly honored. Whether you’re carrying on a family tradition or establishing a new custom, the wedding team welcomes a consultation to create a plan reflective of your distinct style and personality.

It’s time to walk down the aisle in one of our iconic venues known for its uniqueness and authenticity. The glorious Gold Coast Room overlooks the stunning shoreline of Lake Michigan and showcases an interior designer not easily replicated with stately pillars of gold leaf tracery. The room can accommodate up to 900 guests and is a fit for any regal occasion. For couples that are natural socialites with a love of dance, the Grand Ballroom is your match. Originally built in the roaring twenties during the Charleston craze, the floor is literally equipped to put a spring in your step. It’s perfectly outfitted for a live band and your first dance to kick-off your wedding party.

The French Room is the most intimate ballroom, featuring hand-crafted ceiling, hand-painted column molding, silk wall coverings, crystal-basket ceiling chandeliers, satin damask draperies, and custom carpet. Consider the Camellia Room for smaller to mid-size events, a banquet space that can accommodate up to 200 guests. It exudes a romantic ambiance, adorned with trellis patterned wallcovering and crystal beaded chandeliers that creates the ideal setting for your wedding events.

Champagne is the DNA of The Drake Hotel. Since the grand opening of the hotel circa 1921 on New Year's Eve, The Drake has been renowned for its iconic champagne parade. This choreographed parade of wait staff with accompanying orchestra or musical set will usher bottles of bubbly upon the room, surrounding the bridal party with a synchronized pour of champagne.
