The State of the Arts!

Jaclyn Jermyn | May 30, 2017 | Feature Features

Join Arts Alliance Illinois as it considers (and celebrates) the arts across Illinois during its fifth annual Benefit Luncheon, June 8.
Members of Chicago poetry and performance group, Kuumba Lynx, will perform at this year's Arts Alliance Benefit Luncheon.

“This event is a great opportunity for the arts community to come together,” says Claire Rice, executive director of Arts Alliance Illinois. “The work of the Alliance is even more critical this year given the status of funding for the arts at both the state and federal level.”

It’s no surprise, then, that the first recipient of the organization’s brand new Creative Voice Award will be RenĂ©e Fleming, internationally renowned soprano and creative consultant for the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Fleming’s dedication to arts advocacy and education has made her a cultural leader and crusader. She will receive the award June 8th at The Palmer House Hilton, alongside 2017 Citizen Advocate Award recipients Janet Carl Smith and Mel Smith.

“We’re really rallying the troops to come out and support the criticality of public funding for the arts,” Rice says.

The luncheon will include dynamic presentations from Chicago arts organizations, including youth poetry and performance group Kuumba Lynx, Natya Dance Theatre, and jazz combo musicians from the Chicago Academy for the Arts, who will set the tone during both the reception and luncheon portions of the event—examples of the wonderful and diverse programs the Arts Alliance Illinois has worked to support and protect in their 35 years as an advocacy and service organization. 11:15AM, tickets from $350
