The Wood Family Foundation's Storybook Gala

| December 5, 2016 | Parties

Novel Idea
The Wood Family Foundation’s Storybook Gala was an evening of whimsy and generosity.

Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood and his wife, Sarah, hosted the second annual gala for their Wood Family Foundation’s Pitch In, a youth mentoring program in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood. The evening at Moonlight Studios beautifully captured its Journey to Neverland theme with London street decor, pixie dust, pirates and more.

Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts and President of Baseball Operations Crane Kenney came out to support the cause, as did Harry Caray’s Restaurant Group President Grant DePorter and Vice President Beth Heller. The evening, which was emceed by actress Bonnie Hunt, honored Graham Allen with its Pitch In for Excellence Award.

Guests bid high on live auction items, including an exclusive day with Kerry at Wrigley Field, private escapes to Tuscany and Costa Rica, and the chance to catch live tapings of Saturday Night Live and other shows in New York City. As a result, the evening was a total home run, raising more than $500,000 for Pitch In. ‒Sarah Ryan
