THE COUPLE Nevena Varagic and Igor Dzinkic first met one Christmas Eve at their Serbian church. Four and a half years later— following a romantic Riverwalk proposal that came with an assist from the couple’s dog, Tedi—they said “I do” at that very same church.
THE DETAILS Their guests traveled from Europe, Australia and all over the U.S., so the couple wanted to showcase Chicago. “We chose Trump Tower because of the stunning views from the ballroom; the skyline illuminated from the reception space highlighted the city we love so much,” the bride says. Indoors, an on-trend palette of blush pink, dusty blue and neutral pastels set the scene.
THE PARTY“I was torn between an outdoor garden or ‘city chic’ wedding, so I thought, why not combine them?” Nevena says. “Textured floral decor elicited the appearance of a garden and ‘city chic’ came through in our venue selection.” After a romantic first dance and dinner, the party got going. The newlyweds shot off LED cannons on the dance floor, and then—“the cherry on top!”—guests watched as fireworks exploded over Navy Pier.
The terrace at Trump International Hotel & Tower provided an epic backdrop for newlywed photos.
They had a traditional Serbian Orthodox wedding ceremony and, earlier in the day, incorporated an old Serbian tradition known as “buying of the bride."
