Viva la Vida

| January 29, 2013 | Parties

The University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation Women’s Board and Verdura host the 46th annual grand auction at Four Seasons Hotel Chicago.

THE PARTY More than 500 guests dressed in black tie were greeted by the melodies of a Spanish guitar, which was complemented by the rhythmic stomping of a flamenco dancer. During the evening, themed Viva la Vida, the crowd sipped Spanish wines while bidding on an array of luxury prizes and travel packages. THE SCENE The evening’s principal sponsor, Verdura, jeweler to some of the most stylish ladies of yesterday, such as Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Babe Paley, and today’s red carpet beauties like Anne Hathaway, Eva Longoria and Cameron Diaz, added an extra sparkle to the evening with a Criss Cross Cuff auction item. Other prizes up for grabs included a shopping spree at Ralph Lauren and dinner for 20 at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House. THE HIGHLIGHTS More than $700,000 was raised to support cancer research at the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center. Founded in 1947, the Women’s Board has raised more than $10 million for the cause. Photos by Cheri Eisenberg and Dan Rest
