Style is a state of mind and fashion a means of expression, which is all the more important in our rapidly changing world. We check in with Chicago's sartorial stars for some words of wisdom.
Mary Lasky, co-owner, Maple & Ash/Etta; Tina Weller, treatment coordinator, Weller Dental
The biggest change in my life since I was featured in 2015 is... ML: Our restaurants have gone nationwide—we opened Maple & Ash in Scottsdale, with other states targeted to open in 2021.
Our big news is… TW: We are co-chairs for The Service Club of Chicago’s Phantom Gala in October!
For me, 2020 has brought... ML: My children back home. This has been my silver lining during our shut-in. I love a full house!
This year has taught me… ML: Life is fragile.
What I’m most passionate about right now is… TW: Enjoying life, traveling and staying close with my family and friends like Mary have always been my focus, and most importantly giving back through philanthropy.
My proudest achievement is... ML: ...and always will be my two amazing children.
My favorite designers of the moment are… ML: Gucci for flats; Lululemon for leggings; Nike for exercise trainers; Zimmermann for fun, sexy summer linens; and Mother for jeans. TW: Cushnie, Zhivago, Lovers + Friends, Alexis.
In 2020, style is all about... TW: Comfort, easy to care for, and swimwear for me. The parties have slowed down, but my swimming pool has been my sanctuary. ML: Sporty, comfy style with a touch of glam and a mask—I can’t stop the glam completely!
My hope for the future is... Both: To party like it’s 1999 again! TW: I can’t wait to get dolled up, support great causes and go to in-person events again. ML: And that we can unite all of us in kindness, and that Chicago can return to a thriving, beautifully diverse city that functions for all of its people.
