Style is a state of mind and fashion a means of expression, which is all the more important in our rapidly changing world. We check in with Chicago's sartorial stars for some words of wisdom.
Sheryl Dyer Schmidt, STORE DIRECTOR, VAN CLEEF & ARPELS
The biggest change in my life since I was featured in 2013 is... marrying a tremendous human being, my wonderful husband, Dr. Joseph Schmidt.
The most amazing thing to happen since I became a Woman of Style was... attending a private dinner at the United Nations in Geneva—a memory for a lifetime!
My big news is... I am a dog mom, madly in love with a naughty cocker spaniel named Annabelle.
This year has taught me... to cherish close relationships.
I never expected that... I would love being a part of Saint Patrick High School (my hubby is the board president). We had our wedding reception there—of course transformed by the amazing Tom Kehoe!
In 2020, style is all about... relaxed, wearable fashion. People want to dress well in comfortable style to match a slower-paced life.
Since I was featured, my style has changed by... I’ve had several foot surgeries, which means high heels are out of the question. I now opt more for slim pants in beautiful fabrics paired with fabulous tops, or dresses with a full skirt to offset the flats—a game changer for sure.
My favorite designers of the moment are… Jacquemus catches my eye with soft color palettes, fabrics with graceful movement and an easy relaxed look. For a few years, Carolina Herrera, especially her CH line, has suited my lifestyle from work to special events or casual evenings.
My hope for the future is... seeing people’s smiles again and students back in school!
