Women Of Style 2020: Sondra Karman Is Finding Balance

By J.P. Anderson By J.P. Anderson | September 27, 2020 | People,

Style is a state of mind and fashion a means of expression, which is all the more important in our rapidly changing world. We check in with Chicago's sartorial stars for some words of wisdom.

SONDRA KARMAN, OWNER/INSTRUCTOR, BODY BALANCING PILATES

The most amazing thing to happen since I became a Woman of Style in 2016 was...
global presentations of my course on the integrative approach for Pilates as movement therapy for health and wellness practitioners.

My big news is... I don’t have to be what I was.

For me, 2020 has brought... incredible enjoyment in helping others to keep healthy and physically active in a time when it’s so easy not to.

I never expected that... a big orange Ligne Roset chair with two cats and myself reading would be such a delight.

What I’m most passionate about right now is… listening and learning.

The biggest surprise of the year has been... seeing how many people truly care about others, and not just for a day.

My proudest achievement is... my bee- and butterfly-friendly rooftop garden.

In 2020, style is all about... ease.

To me, style means... wearing on the outside how you feel on the inside. Every day is different and that’s OK... sweatpants and a tank top one day and cropped jeans and fabulous Fendi platforms the next.

My favorite designer of the moment is… Orange Culture from Nigeria.

My hope for the future is... to not go back to what we think normal is. To step out and create a new reality that fits us now.
