The Party Nearly 900 guests gathered at The Museum of Science and Industry for the 32nd annual Columbian Ball, named after Chicago’s 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition and celebrating the museum’s and Chicago’s spirit of innovation.The Scene The Anybot QB2, a remote-controlled robot, greeted partygoers upon arrival as novelties from the Fair were on display and an acrobatic artist twirled from a silk sheet hanging from the Rotunda’s ceiling. Guests also celebrated and interacted with local teens involved in CASE, the museum’s program to motivate children in the science, technology, medical and engineering fields, before enjoying a meal by Blue Plate Catering. Dessert paid homage to the Fair with a brown sugar cognac apple cobbler with Aunt Jemima and Quaker Oats crumble topping and Pabst Blue Ribbon ice cream, all brands that debuted at the 1893 event.The Highlights Live auction prizes like a private deep-sea diving expedition in Hawaii with world-renowned marine engineer Graham Hawkes and a weeklong stay at a private Tuscan village in Italy raised $242,000 for CASE.
